We have agreed to support St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Sutton Coldfield to help provide essential access improvement works for local pupils.

The school’s Bromwich Drive entrance had started to suffer from drainage issues and an uneven path had become a trip hazard. This had created an environment that was muddy and often plagued by water pooling. The overall conditions had given rise to parents and children using a slippery grassy area to access the school.

Following an initial site visit, it was agreed that the current set up was unable to cope with periods of sustained heavy rain. So, former pupil and company project manager, Patrick Lambe, came up with a solution to create a safe entrance/exit for the pupils, parents and teachers, donating company resources as part of our community outreach programme.

Our work included: excavation of a grass area, the break out of an existing path, lifting and re-laying of slabs, the formation of a tarmac area and the installation of Aco drains. With slabs re-laid and the levels altered, the path is now fit for purpose again.

Patrick Lambe, M. Lambe Construction, Project Manager and former pupil, said: “The situation for people accessing via Bromwich Drive was not ideal and we were pleased to have the opportunity to improve the conditions at my old school.”

Mr Gerry O’Hara, Principal, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, said: “We are indebted to M. Lambe Construction Limited for carrying out the work to such a high standard and in such a speedy manner (despite the snow!).

“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the professionalism of the workforce. They cooperated with all our demands of not been able to work at certain times of the day, no footwear in the building, providing the school with all the appropriate legal paperwork and were extremely polite and professional, especially with our neighbours. They were a credit to the M. Lambe Construction company.”
