Spring Statement 2019: UK Government pledges to fix broken housing market

In a statement mainly hamstrung by Brexit, Philip Hammond reaffirmed the UK Government’s ambition of achieving housing supply rates of 300,000 new homes per year, through the introduction of a number of additional policies.

The Government sees the increase in the number of homes built, in the right place, as a crucial driver to unlocking productivity growth and making buying a new home more affordable.

The key talking points that affect the housing sector, include the announcement of an Affordable Homes Guarantee Scheme, designed to support the delivery of 30,000 new affordable homes. Under the new scheme, UK Government will guarantee up to £3 billion of lending to housing associations across England to help them access money at a low cost.

A Future Homes Standard will be introduced by 2025, so that new homes are built with greater regard for the environment, including low-carbon heating and energy efficiency.

The Chancellor also earmarked £717m from the £5.5bn Housing Infrastructure Fund to unlock a further 37,000 homes, with sites at Old Oak Common in London, the Oxford-Cambridge Arc and Cheshire the beneficiaries.

We have structured our business around three core values: sustainability, collaboration and integrity and this approach has built trust, leading to ‘long-term partnerships’ with our clients.

But don’t just take our word for it…….

Chris Hollis, Commercial Director, McCarthy & Stone, said of our approach: “I have worked with M. Lambe Construction on over 11 schemes in the past 4-years with McCarthy & Stone West Midlands prior to joining the East Midlands region in April 2017.

“Each scheme has been excellent in terms of the programme, build quality, management and service and therefore as a result of this, we have awarded them a partnering agreement.”

Martin Install, Commercial Director, St Modwen Homes, said: “St Modwen Homes has worked with M. Lambe Construction for the last 2-years and they have fast become an integral part of our supply chain. They are a collaborative and forward-thinking business who we hope to work with for many years to come.”
