Social housing investment boost

The Secretary of State for Housing, The Rt Hon James Brokenshire, has unveiled a £1.67 billion investment plan, designed to increase the availability of affordable social housing.

The financial stimulus will help secure the delivery of an additional 23,000 new homes across the country, with at least 12,500 for the social rent market in high cost areas where families are struggling.

This grant is the latest release from the government’s £9 billion affordable housing fund, with £1.67 billion allocated in March 2018 towards building 27,000 new affordable homes across London.

Further measures to help local authorities build a new generation of council homes have also been unveiled. It is anticipated that by increasing the housing revenue account borrowing cap to £1 billion, councils will be able to bid for increases in their caps and commence a programme of house building. The allocation will be split equally between London and the rest of England.

As councils kick start house building, through renewed access to finances, M. Lambe Construction will continue to invest in the region, building the homes and infrastructure needed to help grasp the nettle on housing.
